First impressions of Joomla 1.6

Since the guru JoomlaSpanish Joomla "gnumax" shares his first impressions of Joomla 1.6. Every word has value:

I installed the Alpha version and I have navigated through the menus in the Administrative panel. I have seen many changes and I will share with you to have an idea of what we find in the final version.

News List:

Installation
You can set the Super Administrator login. In previous versions was created on login "admin" as the default.
Global Settings
The level of access for the whole site can be set to "Site Settings".
User Management
Completely re-written that allows creation of groups and access levels. Granulation permits extensions beyond the ACL as the JED Noix.
Management Menus
  • There was a significant improvement in managing the menus, especially for sites that have multiple items on the menu.
  • There is an option to give access permissions in batch, saving time in system maintenance.
  • Modules can be assigned to a menu item. (Reminds me of this branch 1.0).
  • Move an element in a subgroup in the main menu has become much easier.

Articles
  • Together with the FTA, I think the management of the articles is also part of the best changes to be presented in the latest version of Joomla! 1.6.
  • Now the menu item is excluded, moving items to the menu Components.
  • Categories can receive different levels and sections no longer exist, have been eliminated.
  • There is an option to use different layouts (staff alternative) - Template Override.
  • New Options on the toolbar: Save and New, Copy and Save.
  • Again, as in version 1.0, using the separation between the introductory text and the full text. (This should not continue. I hope!).

Extensions Manager

Template Manager
Formerly known as Install / Uninstall and now with more options like installing, uninstalling, upgrading, warnings, and "Discover."
Templates manager
Includes a new feature to create a new style of the template from the panel.
Redirection (Tools)
De facto, Joomla! should provide a function to create URL redirects.
There are details that I have not yet been able to experiment and I'm experiencing, but initially significant improvements were found in the granulation of permits and in managing multi-categories for the items, which is appreciated.
